FinOps 44 Is Here — What You Need to Know Before Updating

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations version 10.0.44 (FinOps 44) has been available since April 2025, bringing enhancements that continue to align the platform with modern business needs—particularly around performance, user experience, and automation.

But while new features and fixes are always welcome, any FinOps update – especially in highly regulated or complex environments – is more than a technical checkbox. It’s a strategic decision.

So before you rush to click “Update,” here’s what you should consider when planning your rollout.

What’s New in FinOps 44?

FinOps 44 is a “service update,” meaning it’s part of Microsoft’s regular one-version cadence, including:

  • Performance improvements across core financial processes
  • Usability updates that help reduce clicks and navigation time
  • Fixes and refinements based on user feedback from earlier versions
  • Enhancements to automation and business events, making it easier to trigger workflows and integrations

(Full release notes are available via Microsoft Learn.)

Planning the Update: Strategic Considerations

  1. Understand the Business Impact
Even minor UI or process changes can confuse users if they aren’t prepared. Review the full release plan and identify what affects your organization’s daily workflows – especially in areas like General Ledger, AP/AR, or Project Operations.
  2. Assess Customizations and ISVs
Have you built custom features, or are you using third-party solutions? Test compatibility in a sandbox environment first. The last thing you want is to break a mission-critical extension.
  3. Test, Test, Test
Microsoft does a great job with regression testing – but every implementation is unique. Prioritize user acceptance testing (UAT) in key areas like month-end close, invoicing, or integrations with Power Platform and external systems.
  4. Communicate with Users
Make sure stakeholders are aware of the update’s scope and timing. Provide guidance on what’s changing and offer training resources where needed.
  5. Review Your Lifecycle Services (LCS) Plans
Updates are automatically scheduled unless deferred. Check your LCS project timeline to ensure the update won’t conflict with other planned changes or peak operational periods.

ERP Advisors Advise is to be Proactive, not reactive

Staying current with Microsoft’s update cycle isn’t just about compliance – it’s about future-proofing your operations. Skipping updates can lead to a snowball of technical debt. But updating without a plan? That’s a different kind of risk.
